National Volunteer Week
This week is known as National Volunteer’s Week. Disaster Response Team, Panama City, strives to better homes and the community around us. Therefore, volunteering is something that is a core value of our company.
One community project that is near to our hearts is being an American Red Cross Community Partner. As a community partner, Disaster Response Team, closely work with the Central Panhandle American Red Cross for Bay County and surrounding counties throughout the year. Being a restoration company, we see the terrible destruction that a disaster leaves. From witnessing the disaster first hand, our company wanted to be able to assist in more ways. The American Red Cross’ mission is to provide compassionate care to those in need. From the owner volunteering on the board for the American Red Cross, to our marketing director assisting with major fundraising events, and even our office manager is able to use her talents with digital design; our entire team is dedicated to helping the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
Another volunteering project that is important to the Disaster Response team, Panama City, is the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk for the American Cancer Society. Cancer has devastated our employees and their families. We have walked through the healing journey a few times and have sadly lost a couple during the journey. There are many reasons our team takes pride in being able to participate in this amazing event. We walk to fight for a cure so others will not have to walk through what many of our employees have walked through. We walk to remember the loved ones who passed away. We walk so our survivors can enjoy another day cancer free. Each year we look forward to raising awareness about breast cancer and fundraising for the programs the American Cancer Society offers those who have cancer. This walk normally is hold at Aaron Bessant Park in Panama City Beach, FL in October.
Our company also likes to support the Bay Humane Society. Our company offers a very prepared pet program. There are many pets who are lost during hurricanes or floods each year. Also, during a fire, a fire rescuer may be able to save the pet if they know the pet is in the home. Many homeowners have plans for their family and their home, but often do not remember to include their pets when planning. Disaster Response Team offers free window clings in the event of an emergency that shows how many pets are in the home. We also have free pet disaster plans to ensure your pet is prepared in case of a disaster. The disaster plan walks through preparation before a major storm such as a hurricane all the way through if the power is out. We support the Bay Humane Society in their effort to rescue unprepared pets in their mission to find their new forever home.
Another project that is beginning this year is that our company will provide free board up services for uninsured homes after fires. We have noticed a rising trend of fires in Panama City, FL and surrounding areas of homes that do not have insurance. We want to be able to provide a service to homeowners so that their property does not incur further damages while a plan is put together on what to do with the property.
As National Volunteer Week 2016 comes to a close, our company thought about how much of an impact just one person or one company can make. Through volunteering our time and efforts, we are able to impact so many in Bay County, Walton County, and the surrounding area. This impact not only changes the life of the person, or pet, that you help, but it changes your life as well. We are proud to be able to contribute so much to our local community and would like to not only thank our water damage technicians, mold and fire cleaning crew chiefs, and office staff, but to the places we serve. The American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Bay Humane Society have dedicated so much time and resources to helping the people and pets in Panama City, Panama City Beach, and all of our local community. We appreciate everything these companies do for our community and are proud to be able to assist them.
